Show Some Respect

He doesn't ask for much and he knows he is in the public eye. He has said he is grateful to his fans and continues to do meet and greets sign autographs and support many charities. He is a kind gentle guy who loves his job and appreciates his fans. He has very few request in return one being do not post pictures of his family and respect his need for privacy with his family. He hates the paparazzi and knows they will do anything to get pictures of him in his private life, and no matter how many request asking Entertainment reporters and paparazzi to back off when he is with his family his request go unnoticed.

My point to this is that there are many fan sites and blogs of Johnny Depp admirers who talk about how wonderful he is and on the same space encourage Reporters and Paparazzi by publishing family photos as well as negative photos and pitiful articles showing him in the worst possible light. He has not committed a crime; he has not murdered anyone all he is doing is spending time with his family. So my question is why?

I know not all fans are alike and some fan sites do respect his privacy requests but more than some seem to be oblivious to a few simple requests by honoring his requests. So before you open that picture or read that news article think about the man you claim to admire and how he feels, think of how you would feel if that was you. He may be a star but I believe he is entitled and deserves his request for privacy.

Johnny Depp and Terry Gilliam Revive Don Quixote?

An article in the UK Telegraph reports that Johnny Depp is to reunite with Terry Gilliam in a second attempt to film "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote". Originally Terry Gilliam film started shooting back in September 2000 but the film was never finished; it was abandoned after a few days as a result of flash floods and an ailment that meant that Jean Rochefort - Gilliam's Quixote - was unable to sit on a horse. Due to Johnny Depp having other commitments he was unable to wait for Jean Rochefort. The plug was pulled on the project and the insurers reportedly paid out $15 million (£7.5 million) and took control of the script. Terry Gilliam has now reported to have ownership of the script. Jeff Taplin Says Johnny Not In Shantaram

Here is an Interesting Interview with Jeff Taplin, Executive at Johnny Depp’s production company Infinitum Nihil. The interview was published on The Black Hollywood Files Blog. Part Two is the most interesting part with Part three being published tommorow.

SHEQUETA
What upcoming projects do you guys have coming up?

JEFF
Upcoming projects, let’s see… we’re working on a book by Nick Hornby called “A Long Way Down."

SHEQUETA
Isn’t he a sports writer?

JEFF
No, he wrote the book the movies based on: "High Fidelity" and "About a Boy." And this one (A Long Way Down), is about four people who meet on a on a rooftop in London on New Years Eve with the intent of killing themselves. They talk each other out of killing themselves. They spend like the next year trying to fix their lives. You know, become mentally better. So we’re working on that. We have this book called Shantaram, this big epic journey through India. This guy is on the lam and ends up in India.

SHEQUETA
Who is it by?

JEFF
Gregory Roberts. Let’s see what else. Rex Mundi, which is a comic book property. And it’s basically like an alternate future where the Spanish Inquisition was able to take hold and essentially control the development of the industry and technology. So essentially the Catholic Church owned all this hi-tech stuff and the rest of the people live in this almost like eighteen century- nineteen century kind of world but it’s two thousand eight. And it’s like an alternate parallel universe essentially. So the civil war had a different outcome and so the US is split between North and South and there’s still problems like literally where the US is split apart and fractioned but the story takes place like in Europe.

SHEQUETA
Is Johnny starring in all of those?

JEFF
I think probably just in Rex Mundi. What else do we have…we have “Dark Shadows” based on the TV (show)…the vampire soap opera from the seventies. (It) was actually like a TV soap that was about a family where there was a vampire in the family. It was sort of a weird concept yeah. But it’s a cult classic in a sense because the production values were very laughable. So you would see the boom mics and the set would kind of wobble a bit but people loved it. So, we’re working on that. We have a story called “Bomb in my Garden” which is about Saddam‘s top nuclear scientist--nuclear enrichment scientist (and) everything he knew and did for Saddam. So we have a lotta projects coming up.

The Last Steps Of John Dillinger

On this day July 22, 1934, The FBI looks at the gangster John Dillinger who was killed in Chicago, moments after leaving the Biograph Theater.

Dillinger’s death signaled the beginning of the end of the Gangster Era, but the nation’s fascination with those times lives on. A new movie about Dillinger, directed by Michael Mann, is scheduled for release next July. The film, Public Enemies, stars Johnny Depp as Dillinger and Christian Bale as Purvis. Mann, a Chicago native, spared no expense to re-create the Biograph Theater and the look and feel of 1930s-era Chicago for the film. “Getting it visually right requires a lot of dedication,” he explains, thanking us for our “spectacular cooperation” in helping to make the film authentic.

The actual Colt .380 that Dillinger reached for as agents were closing inRoss Rice, our spokesman in the Chicago field office, says that when he compared the movie sets with archival photos from those days, “you couldn’t tell the difference. I felt like I was stepping back in time.”

On Lincoln Avenue, where the Biograph still stands, the film crew “essentially rented out the entire block,” Rice says. The façade of every building was redone to look exactly as it did on that steamy night when Dillinger went to see Manhattan Melodrama. Attention was paid to every detail, from the streetlights to the trolley tracks right down to replacing the bricks on the street.
Mann says the film also strives for “period-accurate psychology,” to help illuminate inner thoughts and motivations of Purvis and Dillinger. That process included talking with agents while doing research for the film. Their “zeal and passion,” Mann says, helped him understand just how badly Purvis wanted to catch Public Enemy #1.

Stephen Dorff Talks Public Enemies

Stephen Dorff was recently interviewed by Brent Simon from Shared Darkness. Here is an excerpt from the interview as Stephen talks about Public Enemies.

You mentioned Public Enemies — what was that experience like, and what's the tone and look of the film?

SD: It was awesome. We just finished last week, and it's a full-on gangster flick — 1934, the last year of Dillinger's life, and shooting real Tommy guns and hanging out of cars, having a ball. It was a journey, with a bunch of great actors. Johnny (Depp) was incredible to work with, and very sweet to me. I've known him for years, but had never gotten to work with him. And Marion Cotillard is an incredible actress; Christian Bale, the list goes on. There's so many great actors in that film. I had a really good time with Michael on it. It was long, but I think it'll be a really good movie. I think they're talking about a trailer or teaser going up soon, and it'll probably be out next summer.

Christian Bale Talks About Public Enemies

Christian Bale talks with MTV about his new role as Melvin Purvis.....

“I’ve been doing a movie [called] ‘Public Enemies,’” he said recently about the flick he just wrapped opposite Johnny Depp, Channing Tatum and Marion Cotillard in her first post-Oscar role. The fact-based film tells the story of notorious American gangsters John Dillinger (Depp), Pretty Boy Floyd (Tatum), and Baby Face Nelson (English actor Stephen Graham) during a crime wave in the 1930s. Bale has been cast as FBI chief Melvin Purvis, the man who brings down the three outlaws.

“I wasn’t aware of Melvin Purvis beforehand. I was aware of Dillinger,” the 34-year-old star explained of the significance behind his character. “I knew the circumstances around the era: The Dust Bowl, the crime syndicates.”

When he met with the legendary director of such films as “Heat” and “Ali,” however, Bale got a crash course. “Michael Mann is one of the most thorough researchers that I’ve ever come across,” he marveled. “So I had more than an abundance of information about it. I also travelled to the FBI headquarters and met with the family of the character I was playing.”

To further the authenticity, Mann insisted that they film on the exact sites where the real action happened whenever possible. “We shot at the actual locations where the events took place,” Bale explained. “It was uncanny on a number of occasions; we were filming on the actual dates where the gunfights happened, in the same place, at the same time!”

So when you see the film in July of 2009, you can expect a living, breathing document that could even go beyond Bryan Burrough’s book of the same name, which serves as the film’s source material. “Michael is like an incredible private investigator in the way that he approaches his moviemaking,” explained Bale. “[I'm amazed by] the nuances and the details that he’s interested in and does so well.”

“There’s some license taken,” Bale allowed. “It stays true to the events, but as with many movies, [some things are changed] in trying to condense an entire story into two hours.”
