Walt Disney Studios Showcase

Laughingplace.com's Doug Marsh provides an extensive report from the huge Walt Disney Studios Showcase held September 24th in Hollywood with Disney Studio Chief Dick Cooks and featuring several celebs. Here is an excerpt from the report.

"The USC Marching Band came down the aisles, playing the William Tell Overture. As this is the theme song for The Lone Ranger, in no time at all a logo for a new film of that title appeared on the screen. The screen than raised to reveal a masked rider, brandishing pearl handled revolvers, seated on a white horse. Cook cleared the stage long enough to let them perform, then returned once things had calmed down. “I’m not sure who is going to play the Lone Ranger…” he began. As he spoke, a familiar figure swaggered in from the wings. It was Captain Jack Sparrow, wearing a simple black mask and carrying a pearl handled revolver in his waistband. As he got close, he removed the mask, revealing it was really Johnny Depp. He offered the mask and pistol to Cook, then after a few minutes, took them back and wandered back into the wings. Cook shrugged and asked, “How about another pirates movie, just for fun?”

~Blast From The Past - The Fast Show ~

In our second segment of Blast From The Past we introduce Johnny Depp In The Fast Show. In 2000 Johnny Depp's dreams came true when he was cast to make a cameo appearance in the last episode of The Fast Show his favourite British television comedy.

While filming the movie From Hell in England, Johnny Depp became such a fan of the BBC comedy series that he asked to appear on the show. In a sketch featuring regular cast members Paul Whitehouse and Mark Williams, Depp portrays an American movie star visiting the Suit You shop, where he is measured by suit salesmen Ken and Kenneth while being pestered with questions about his sex life. In a BBC press release, Depp is quoted as saying, "I got off a plane, sweating like some kind of hideous swine, and grabbed all my luggage and [raced] over to the BBC and went straight to the stage, not knowing the lines really well. With these guys, there's no way to be funny around them, so you just shut up and nod your head." Watch "The Suit You Tailors" segment from The Fast Show With Johnny Depp.

Johnny Depp & George Clooney?

So now the rumors start who will play The Lone Ranger? according to news reports George Clooney is apparently interested. Other suggestions have been Viggo Mortensen and Christian Bale, personally I don't think Bale would be a good fit. Anyway here is an excerpt from an article @ Firstshowing.net.

"Word as of now is that George Clooney has shown a lot of interest in the role of the Lone Ranger, and the studio's been talking to him about it." Wow. How does that sound? ~Blast From The Past - Johnny Depp Reading Jack Kerouac~

In 1996 Washington Square Films produced the widely acclaimed The United States of Poetry, directed by Mark Pellington. The series, a stylized portrait of America as seen through language and poetry, featured fifty poets including, Allen Ginsburg, Czeslaw Milosz, Lou Reed, Jimmy Carter, Johnny Depp (as Jack Kerouac) and many others. The New York Times called the series "Breathtaking television", and Raygun magazine called it "quite simply the most powerful series about the spoken word ever produced."

Sitting in the control room of a radio station and smoking a cigarette is a long-haired, quiet, intense young man. The lights blink ON AIR ON AIR, and then switch to KEROUAC KEROUAC. And indeed the words are from the author of On the Road, and here the voice breaks into the jazz poems of Kerouac's Mexico City Blues, perhaps the greatest volume of straight-out jazz poetry ever written. And the man who's reading them, in a gently-inflected smoke-tinged voice, is JOHNNY DEPP, who, when not starring in movies, is an avid Kerouac fan and scholar. See Video Below for an excerpt of Johnny Depp reading Mexico City Blues By Jack Kerouac.

Alice In Wonderland Filming At Torpoint

Antony House filming has started and has already been creating a buzz of activity at the historic site. For the coming weeks more than 250 extras, from Plymouth and surrounding areas, will be dressing up and acting in scenes under the expert hand of Tim Burton. The Plymouth Herald visited the set of Alice In Wonderland On Monday to catch a glimpse of tinseltown’s adopted home.

A spokeswoman for the production has told The Herald that the heart-throb won’t be filming at Antony, in Plymouth or indeed anywhere in the UK.

According to the Herald It is believed the Mad Hatters’ tea party is among the scenes being shot in Antony. Mr Depp is rumoured to be playing the part of the Mad Hatter, but it is also rumoured he will be a CGI graphic. All of which means that it may be some time before we get any official confirmation of how or if Depp will actually appear in the film.

Thanks To Jenny Of Plymouth for The Info.

Johnny Depp As The Riddler?

Okay so Michael Caine probably did make some comments about Johnny Depp playing the Riddler, but knowing his dry sense of humor it seems to me he was repeating in jest what the MTV reporter was actually saying, basically I think he was just messing with the reporter. This is typical tabloid (Rupert Murdoch) style reporting which takes everything said out of context, using key words to change the story and make it into news.

They are also quoting Johnny as saying "I heard about that. "It seems like it'd be a fun gig for a while, yeah." but are missing out what was actually said. Here is how the conversation went with Johnny.

Host: Hey Johnny, a listener called in earlier said you have to ask about the rumors on the internet of you doing the Riddler.

Depp: Oh yeah, I heard about that. Not that I know of.

Host: You’d be a good choice.

Depp: It seems like it’d be a fun gig for a while, yeah.

This does not look like a confirmation to me and remember most tabloids use part quotes to a make news story. Thus always taking what people say out of context

I would wait to see if Chris Nolan signs up for another Batman movie before thinking about whom the cast will be and unless Tim Burton signs up for another Batman Movie I would not take these rumors seriously.

I suppose we shall all just have to wait and see……..

Rolling Stone Talks Johnny & The Kids

Rolling Stone posted an article about Johnny Depp and The Kids On Stage In Florida.

“Music will always be my first love,” Johnny Depp revealed in a recent issue of Rolling Stone. “I pick up the guitar and space out and drool.” So it’s no surprise that the actor jumped at the opportunity to reunite with his old band the Kids this past weekend in Florida for a benefit concert honoring Sheila Witkin, a manager of local South Florida bands in the Seventies and Eighties and the mother of Bruce Witkin, Depp’s childhood friend and bandmate.
Depp joined the Kids when he was a 17-year-old high school student in Miramar, Florida, and achieved some success with the group — opening for Iggy Pop, Talking Heads, the Pretenders and the Ramones — before putting his musical career on hold to become an actor. He took the stage at Club Cinema in Pompano Beach in torn jeans and blue plaid shirt knotted around his waist while he played guitar for adoring onlookers including family members Vanessa Paradis and daughter Lily-Rose. This is the second annual memorial concert for Wiktin, who died in 2006.
Though he took time to hug each musician onstage and reach out into the audience to touch the hands of his many fans, Depp never spoke to the crowd directly. During the band’s cover of the Ronettes’ “Be My Baby,” Depp contributed backup vocals on a mike he shared with Bruce Witkin, while the two jokingly pointed at each other and exchanged meaningful pats on the shoulder. Later, Depp, Witkin and the band’s other guitarist, Joey Malone, pulled out some classic rock moves by fanning out in a group formation while they played through the Kids’ catalog.
The evening ended as the Kids gathered the other bands on the benefit bill onstage for a sing-along rendition of Them’s “Gloria,” substituting the spelling of the iconic chorus with S-H-E-I-L-A. “That’s what I like about him,” one concertgoer commented. “He’s a real guy. He minimizes his presence so the focus can be on the band. And,” he added, “no doubt the man can burn it.”
