Last week we went behind-the scenes with Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter. Today we look at the Strange World Of Alice In Wonderland

~Johnny & Vanessa Recording Haiti Single~

Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis are rumored to be recording vocals for a charity single with The Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan and Primal Scream singer Bobbie Gillespie in aid of Haiti earthquake victims.

According to Hello Magazine the song, a cover of 1956 hit I Put A Spell On You, will also include vocals from Australian crooner Nick Cave and, possibly, Simply Red's Mick Hucknall.

~Return To Wonderland Wednesday~

Week two of Wonderland Wednesday is bursting this week with media exclusives from Sketches, Stills to the second sneak peak from Disney. First up is AICN's Exclusive Sketch of The Red Queen.

IRACEBETH, THE RED QUEEN (Helena Bonham Carter) is the tyrannical monarch of Underland. With her oversized head, fiery temper and propensity to scream for people’s heads to be chopped off, she rules her subjects through fear. “She’s got emotional problems,” says Bonham Carter. “It takes nothing, practically, for her to lose her temper. Her tantrums are that of a two-year-old.” Her younger sibling, the White Queen, has designs on the throne and crown that Iracebeth once stole from her. For those of you who are itching to see the knave of Hearts Cinematical has their exclusive sketch.

ILOSOVIC STAYNE, THE KNAVE OF HEARTS (Crispin Glover) is the head of the Red Queen’s Army. Seven feet, six-inches tall, with a scarred face and a heart-shaped patch covering his left eye, Stayne is an arrogant, tricky character who follows the Red Queen’s every order. He’s the only one capable of pacifying her and calming her dramatic mood swings. “I am the martial element for the Red Queen,” says Glover. “The Red Queen has a fair amount of short-tempered reactions to things that people do, and so my character has to be quite diplomatic.” His darker side emerges in the shadows of the castle hallways. Next up we have Filmshaft's Exclusive still of The Catepillar.

ABSOLEM, THE CATERPILLAR (voice of Alan Rickman) is the all-knowing and absolute guardian of the Oraculum, an ancient document that depicts every major event, past, present and future, in Underland’s history. Alice is taken by the White Rabbit and the Tweedles to meet Absolem, so that he can ascertain whether she is, in fact, the real Alice who first visited Underland as a child, the Alice who is destined to help them. They find the bulbous blue caterpillar atop a mushroom in a mushroom forest surrounded by misty smoke. Several times Absolem challenges Alice to come to a better understanding of herself, forcing her to face the difficult question: “Who are you?”

~Alice In Wonderland TV Spot Announced~

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is gearing up to hit the small screen in a big way with a series of new spots leading up to a big Super Bowl reveal. Here is the announcement from Disney.

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures is teaming up with sister networks ABC, ESPN and ABC FAMILY for a week-long, cross-network extravaganza that will send viewers straight down the rabbit hole with “ALICE IN WONDERLAND.” The stunt provides 60-second first-looks customized for each network, all of which will air between Jan. 31 and Feb. 6, 2010. Featuring exclusive, never-before-seen footage from visionary director Tim Burton’s 3D theatrical motion-picture event, the first looks will culminate with a spectacular Super Bowl spot on Feb. 7, 2010. Entitled “Tick-Tock,” this action-packed spot features intense imagery and a few surprises from Burton’s Wonderland.

“We wanted to kick off our television campaign for ‘Alice in Wonderland’ in a big way,” says David Singh, executive vice president of worldwide marketing for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. “With Tim Burton at the helm and a cast that includes Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter and rising star Mia Wasikowska, the film already has a passionate following. ~Movie Update On Dark Shadows~

In December we told you that Dark Shadows was on-track confirmed by Graham King. Then there was news reports saying that it would be delayed further. James a very good friend of Johnny Depp News has given us an update on Dark Shadows. According to The Official DARK SHADOWS Newsletter & News Source The Dark Shadows Movie is on track....

The "Dark Shadows" feature film finally is heading toward production later this year. It will star longtime DS fan Johnny Depp as "Barnabas."Director Tim Burton has completed the extended post-production of his most recent collaboration with Johnny, Disney's live-action/animated movie adaptation of "Alice In Wonderland." Johnny is starting to film "The Tourist" with Angelina Jolie. Variety 11-6: "Depp would play an American tourist drawn into a web of intrigue by a female Interpol agent (Jolie) who is attempting to locate a criminal who was once her lover."In the meantime, the DS script is being worked on and plans are on target for an expected 2011 release.

For those of you who are huge fans of the Dark Shadow TV Series some of the Dark Shadow stars have passed away. Jean Simmons who appeared in Dark Shadows Revival in 1991 as Elizabeth Collins, Conard Fowkes appeared as Frank Garner 1966/67 and Michael Currie who played Sheriff Jonas Carter 1966. ~Public Enemies Costume Showcase ~

Colleen Atwood creator of Eight wardrobes for Johnny Depp will showcase her Public Enemies Collection @ Fashion Institute of Design & Marketing's "Art of Motion Picture Costume Design" show in Los Angeles beginning Feb. 9. Atwood is now creating outfits for Johnny and Angelina Jolie in the contemporary thriller "The Tourist."

Atwood says, "The thing that's so compelling about Johnny Depp is that he is a character actor in a movie star's body," Atwood says. "He can take the things that make somebody approachable in a character and do it with such grace and elegance that he makes it appealing for everyone." Read more.....

~Johnny Depp Goes Inside The Mad Hatter With Total Film~

"I was telling Tim, I think this guy's poisoned an this is what makes him mad. Obviously that's where the term came from, "Mad as a Hatter", because they used a lot of mercury when they were making those beautiful beaver-pelt hats," says Depp, whose impish Hatter, with shock of orange hair and multiple personalities and accents, bears both the physical and mental consequences of mercury posioning. Depp further distorted his visage with green contact lenses, which he admits made it difficult to see on set. "You always get images in your head of what the guy should look like", he says. and for some reason I thought he should look like a lit match. ~ Pirates Of The Caribbean To Be Filmed In Hawaii~

Governor Linda Lingle today announced that Hawai‘i will be the location for “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” the fourth installment of the highly successful Walt Disney Pictures’ action adventure film series from Jerry Bruckheimer Films.

The Walt Disney Company President and CEO Bob Iger met with Governor Lingle on Friday to share the news that the islands of Kaua‘i and O‘ahu will be sites for the production of the feature film, which will begin shooting this summer and is slated to be released in summer 2011. The production is expected to generate an estimated $85 million in direct and indirect spending in Hawai‘i, providing a needed economic boost for the state’s economy as well as creating hundreds of jobs for local residents. **Update 27th January 2010**

After receiving emails with rumors about there being no US premiere. I contacted Disney and it appears that there is only one world premiere for Alice in Wonderland which is to be held in London. I also contacted PremiereRow regarding the announcement of a US Premiere and if they know why the world premiere is being held in the UK.

**Update 29th January 2010**

Today I received a very nice email back from PremiereRow regarding the US & UK premieres. According to them the world premiere is in the UK because it was mainly filmed in England, and Lewis Carroll was English. Disney had planned an equally big US premiere, however due to the cast being tied up with other projects it has become extremely difficult to pin everyone down to one date.

After contact with Disney & Pacific's El Capitan PremiereRow has confirmed that there will be no US premiere. The US Premiere announcement however has not yet been removed because they have not received a cancellation notice. Furthermore PremiereRow has been known to be given as little as three days notice by film companies of upcoming premieres. Therefore in not wanting to chance people missing a premiere, the posting will stay until they receive an official cancellation.
However, they have promised to keep in touch and give us updates as they receive them.

**Update 02 February 2010**

Alice In Wonderland world premiere has now been confirmed for UK. The premiere will take place on February 25th in London’s Leicester Square, and is being held in aid of The Prince’s Foundation for Children & the Arts.

During an interview at the Kustendorf Film Festival Johnny Depp has announced that he will be directing a documentary about Rolling Stones Keith Richards.

Translated from a Serbian newspaper Johnny was quoted as saying: Next week I am starting a documentary on Keith Richards. While I’m in Drvengrad, my editor has already started working on miles of archive footage. I’m very touched that Keith agreed to show up in front of my cameras.

The Alice In Wonderland Facebook page has Exclusively revealed the Album Artwork for the new Almost Alice Soundtrack. Along with the track listing they have noted that there will infact be two albums for Alice In Wonderland which will include the movie score by Danny Elfman along with Almost Alice.

According to Variety GK Films has confirmed that German Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck has returned to Direct The Tourist after exiting the project last fall over creative differences. The Tourist," now rumored to be starring Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie, is to go into Production in the spring. ~Trailer Update For Doors Documentary~

Tom Dicillo has posted an updated Trailer about The Doors Documentary on his website. Narrated by Johnny Depp the updated trailer also features a little of Johnny's voice. Tom Dicillo has also reported on his blog that When You’re Strange will have its American television premiere in May on PBS. The US theatrical release is still pending. Keep the faith. When Your Strange has already been sold to The Works for Theatrical release in The UK.

Variety reports that In March, the studio will throw its weight behind Avril Lavigne's Alice Underground from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland.

This will be Avril Lavigne's 1st Single from her 4th record.

~Disney Confirms Release Date For Pirates 4~

On Wednesday evening on Facebook we mentioned to you that Pirates of The Caribbean "On Stranger Tides was shown to have a release date of May 20th 2011 on Box Office Mojo.

The date has now been confirmed by Disney on their Facebook page and Pirates 4 is set for 20th May 2011. It is also rumored that Pirates 4 will start filming June this year.

The 1930 Ford Model Coupe, which Johnny Depp drove in Public Enemies, is to go up for auction. The 1930s Ford Model A (Lot #1309) used by the notorious gangster John Dillinger and later in the blockbuster 2009 movie about his life, will be sold at No Reserve during the 39th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale on Jan. 18-24, 2010 at WestWorld.
